National level

This section analyses the national testing regulations in force in European Member States, as well as at international level, in order to reflect on and define a set of guidelines for future EU-level projects involving vehicles with high levels of automation.

This section is continuously maintained: first compiled on the basis of the CARTRE Action work, it was further updated (during the follow-up Action ARCADE) focusing on topics as changes on traffic rules, exemptions and testing, additional regulation for national type approval, periodical vehicle inspections or requirements regarding monitoring and vehicle registration.

The successor project FAME has conducted an extensive analysis of testing procedures and administrative framework conditions on testing automated vehicles on public roads in the EU member states as well as Norway, Switzerland and the UK (read more). The respective countries’ information (access hereunder EU/non-EU countries) has been updated on this basis.
