The total annual number of road deaths in the European Union in 2014 among Vulnerable Road Users (Cyclists, pedestrians) was 8922, which amounts for 31% of all road fatalities in the EU. PROSPECT’s overall objective is to make traffic safer for VRUs by not only providing technologies for a better understanding of risk factors of VRU accidents and assessing their costs, but also by developing, demonstrating and testing innovative and active safety systems for protecting VRUs. Compared to first generation Autonomous Emergency Breaking (AEB) systems, the three year-lead project is seeking to develop new systems that aim to significantly improve the safety of VRUs.

Further information on the project including its five key objectives can be found here.
