The FP7 ran till December 2011 and examined the integration of automated transport systems in the urban environment. The project focused on real-life implementations of automated transport systems in three sites: a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system at Heathrow Terminal 5 in the UK; a hybrid guided bus/tramway in Castellon in Spain; and a Cybernetic Transport System in Rome. The most important barrier to implementation was found to be safety, and a set of generally accepted certification guidelines were considered necessary. It was also concluded that the automated transport solution needs to be tailored to the type of city.
