Automated Valet Parking demonstration in Tampere, Finland

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, one of the partner in the CARTRE project, organised a demonstration of automated valet parking on 19 June in Tampere, Finland. The demo was organised in the frame of the EU project AUTOPILOT and gathered stakeholders and local authorities such as the deputy mayor of Tampere.
Johan Scholliers, Project Manager at VTT said: “Automated parking allows room for more vehicles, as they can be parked closer together without fear of collision in parking areas at sites such as airports and shopping centres. The technology also opens up opportunities for optimised logistics and reduced congestion in parking areas”.
In addition to being one of the six AUTOPILOT cities, Tampere is one of the most innovative cities in Finland, making major efforts to develop future road technology infrastructure and IoT. The test was the first in a series of demonstrations taking place in Vigo (Spain), Versailles (France), Livorno (Italy), Daejeon (South Korea), Brainport (The Netherlands) and Tampere, in which five driving modes will be showcased.
